One of the much needed features for remote sites is the ability to deploy domain controllers to ”less than ideal” data centers, in a secure manner. For instance, if you opened a data center in a location where the site had a risk of being compromised; having a read-write copy of your forest and domains would be a huge risk. In Windows Server 2008, this issue is mitigated with the onset of Read-Only Domain Controllers (RODC) and Read-Only DNS.
